Aug 23, 2023studio& nods to japanese origami for world’s thinnest bookend
Exploring the Japanese art of origami, Studio& presents the world’s thinnest bookend. The product, crafted by Inyeop Baek, Sukhyun Chung, Jeonghyun Ahn, and Hyunjae Kwak introduces a new form for the concept of book organization with its seemingly flat and delicate design. Easily transportable, sturdy, and interactive, the Origami Bookend is made of aluminum and anodized coating, becoming complete as it engages the user to unfold it to its final form. Emulating origami paper it comes in a series of vibrant, monochrome colors with a free curve design punctuated by holes that enable folding with ease.

The Origami Bookend features a delicate form that encapsulates the intricacy and simplicity of the Japanese craft, and the concept’s core — transformation. The team at Studio& marks its curved silhouette with a perforated cut which makes it easy for a wide demographic of all ages to fold the iron plate.
This foldable form not only enables user participation, but also aids in reducing logistics energy. Unlike its conventional L-shaped counterparts that demand excess space during delivery, the Origami Bookend’s sleek, thin profile translates into an environmentally considerate packaging solution, fitting inside a thin paper bag.
