Man Utd transfer news: Marc Cucurella bid made, Chelsea name price, Ten Hag rejected

Jun 17, 2023Jun 17, 2023

Manchester United are set for an extremely busy final few days of the summer transfer window. Erik ten Hag could make as many as three signings before Friday's 11pm deadline, while there is also likely to be a number of exits.

United have made four signings so far this summer, spending around £180million. That number is likely to soon be five as Ten Hag completes a deal for a back-up goalkeeper.

The Dutch boss also wants to sign a left-back and has been linked with a long list of targets since news of Luke Shaw's injury emerged. A loan deal appears most likely as Shaw and Tyrell Malacia work to regain full fitness.

A central midfielder is also on the agenda, with Mason Mount set for a spell on the sidelines with an injury of his own. Dean Henderson looks set to be on his way but he may not be the only player leaving Old Trafford this week.

Goodnight!

Manchester United could spring a surprise in the final few days of the summer transfer window, according to journalist Dean Jones.

United are expected to sign a Altay Bayindir and a cover left-back during Luke Shaw's injury layoff before Friday's deadline.

But Jones claims Erik ten Hag could also get his wish of another midfielder.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I’m starting to hear that Manchester United have an eye on a couple of players that haven’t actually been mentioned in that area of the field.

"So maybe it’s that they’re going to spring a surprise in the next couple of days.

"I’m not saying it’s something to be especially excited about because a surprise could just be also seen as a money-saving exercise or Glazernomics as some United fans would look at it as.

"Sofyan Amrabat alternatives are definitely out there, so it’ll be interesting to see who United might have identified. But ultimately, it’s just been a really frustrating end to the window.”

Manchester United will soon learn their opponents in the Carabao Cup third round.

The Red Devils are defending their crown after lifting their first trophy under Erik ten Hag last season.

And they will learn who they face in the third round on Wednesday night after Everton face Doncaster Rovers.

Other clubs in European competition join United in entering the competition at this stage.

Manchester United have told Harry Maguire that he is staying at the club this summer, barring a late U-turn.

According to The Guardian, Maguire won't be leaving after rejecting the chance when West Ham had a £30m bid accepted earlier in the window.

Erik ten Hag told football director John Murtough that he was keen to offload Maguire after stripping him of the captaincy.

But with little time to find a replacement, he is now happy to keep the No 5 around until at least January.

Manchester United have a six-man left-back shortlist to cover the injured Luke Shaw this summer, reports claim.

According to The Athletic, Marc Cucurella tops a list of stars who Erik ten Hag is considering.

Joining him in the frame are Nicolas Tagliafico, Marcos Alonso, Sergio Reguilon, Luke Thomas and Ryan Bertrand.

Manchester United have made an offer for Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella, according to reports.

The Athletic report that United submitted an opening proposal to sign Cucurella on a season-long loan.

But Chelsea are said to have responded with a £7m loan fee request, which United don't intend to pay.

Talks are ongoing for a solution as Erik ten Hag searches for a Luke Shaw replacement.

Rasmus Hojlund looks set to make his Manchester United debut against Arsenal this weekend.

Denmark boss Kasper Hjulmand says he expects the striker to play some part at the Emirates.

He said: "I’ve been in Manchester to watch Rasmus train and he’s in full gear, so he’ll probably be in the squad for the weekend.

"There is of course a caveat, and he must show that he is ready this week.

"He should preferably get some minutes so that we can see that he’s there."

Andre Onana has been named in the Cameroon squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Burundi.

The goalkeeper had previously retired from international duty but is now back after an eight-month hiatus.

If Cameroon qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, and Onana is selected, he will miss several United games between January and February next year.

The Red Devils face Tottenham, Wolves, West Ham and Aston Villa in the Premier League during the scheduled dates of the tournament.

Manchester United have been given an inflated price by Tottenham to sign Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Football Transfers says Spurs are asking for £35m for the Denmark star.

The report claims that the figure is higher than what teams outside of the Premier League have been quoted.

Hojbjerg has fallen out of favour at Spurs following the arrival of Ange Postecoglou.

Fabrizio Romano reports that West Ham have ended their pursuit of Harry Maguire.

The Hammers reopened talks with United this week after a deal initially fell through earlier this month.

But the Red Devils have not given a green light to the move.

West Ham will have to look elsewhere if they want to sign a defender between now and Friday's 11pm deadline.

Besiktas are reportedly interested in signing Mason Greenwood.

Sabah Spor claims the Turkish side have made an enquiry over signing the striker.

Bestikas are also investigating the current physical status of Greenwood, who hasn't played since January 2022.

United announced last week that they would work with the 21-year-old to find him a move.

Marcos Alonso has reportedly turned down the chance of joining Manchester United.

Spanish outlet Marca claims Alonso wants to stay at Barcelona.

Marca had claimed United offered the former Chelsea star a two-year deal.

However, Alonso would prefer to stay at the Nou Camp beyond this summer's deadline.

Manchester United could make a late move for Leicester star Luke Thomas.

The Mail claims the Red Devils may enter the running for the 22-year-old.

Leeds want to sign Thomas on loan but Leicester are wary of strengthening a direct rival in the Championship.

He made 56 appearances in the Premier League before the Foxes were relegated.

Manchester United could strike a late deal with Jose Mourinho's club Roma.

Italian outlet GianlucaDiMarzio.com claims Roma star Leonardo Spinazzola is a target for the Red Devils.

The Italian has featured in both of his team's matches so far this season.

Spinazzola would be experienced cover at left-back for Ten Hag.

Manchester United are interested in signing Lyon left-back Nicolas Tagliafico.

Fabrizio Romano says Erik ten Hag has added the World Cup winner to his list of targets.

Tagliafico started for Argentina in their final win over France in Qatar last December.

Ten Hag knows the player well having managed him for four years at Ajax.

Former United midfielder Fred has leaked Altay Bayindir's move to the club.

Fred joined Fenerbahce earlier this month and has wished the goalkeeper well at Old Trafford even though United are yet to confirm his arrival.

The Brazilian said: "I wished Altay good luck when he left. He is going to join a great team.

"Altay will be very happy at Manchester United."
